Police helicopter searches Chippenham after driver flees at ‘high speed’

A police helicopter searched Chippenham after a driver fled at ‘high speed’.

Officers became aware of a vehicle being driven at excessive speed on the M4 westbound near Swindon shortly after 11pm on Sunday night (2 April).

When they attempted to pull the vehicle – a black Mercedes C200 – over, the driver failed to stop.

The car was lost to sight as it exited the M4 and entered Chippenham. The police helicopter was tasked with assisting officers in locating it on the ground.

However, after circling the Pewsham area, the aircrew were unable to find the suspect vehicle and returned to base.

Officers remained in the area and returned the following morning (Monday 3 April) in a bid to find the Mercedes abandoned following the chase.

The car, and its occupant/s, remain outstanding and Wiltshire Police say enquiries are ongoing.
