Swindon shooting victim, 45, charged with stabbing teenage boy

The victim of a shooting in Swindon has been charged with stabbing a teenage boy.

Paul Newman suffered a gunshot wound to the arm at his address in Sackville Close, Walcot, at around 9.15pm on Thursday 23 March.

He made his own way to the hospital to seek urgent treatment for the significant wound. Doctors alerted Wiltshire Police to the incident and an investigation was launched.

The 45-year-old has since been charged with stabbing a 17-year-old boy in Stubsmead, Eldene, the day before the shooting.

He faces Swindon Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (1 April) charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “He is currently in police custody and is due to appear before Swindon Remand Court tomorrow morning.

“This follows an incident in Stubsmead, Eldene, Swindon on Wednesday 22 March during which a 17-year-old boy was stabbed and required hospital treatment – and a separate incident the following day during which a person was seen to be in possession of an offensive weapon near Sackville Close in Swindon.”
