One man stopped and searched by police patrolling Chippenham park

A man was stopped and searched by police during ‘proactive’ patrols of a Chippenham park.

Officers rushed to detain the male as he casually strolled past the children’s play area on Kingsley Road at 12.20pm this afternoon (Tuesday).

The man in his 20s, described as black and wearing a grey tracksuit, was searched by three officers and fully cooperated with the short investigation.

When nothing of interest was found on his person, he was allowed on his way. Nobody else was stopped and searched by officers during the low-key operation.

On Facebook, Chippenham Police said officers carried out “proactive patrols” in the area, conducting “one stop search” which was confirmed negative for illicit items.

It’s not clear what prompted targeted patrols of the Kingsley Road park area, but locals have suggested that drug dealing and anti-social behaviour are rife – but usually during darkness.
