Police officer assaulted after drunk man walks into family home and steals clothes

A police officer has been assaulted while responding to an incident at a Swindon home last night.

Wiltshire Police were called to an address on Purely Avenue in Park South at around 10pm on Tuesday, following reports of a man having walked into a house and started throwing clothes down the stairs.

Officers arrived on scene, to find the highly intoxicated man at another address but wearing the clothing from the previous address. An officer was then assaulted by the suspect when they attempted to arrest him.

The suspect also sustain injuries during the incident and was taken to Great Western Hopsital before being later conveyed custody at Gablecross Police Station, where he remains.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We attended a report of an initial disorder at an address in Purley Avenue, Park South, at approximately 10pm last night.

“A male aged in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of assault and theft. He was initially taken to Great Western Hospital before he was taken to custody at Gablecross where he remains.”
