Man armed with baseball bat arrested after ‘violent disorder’ in Melksham

A man armed with a baseball bat was arrested following an incident in Melksham.

Police rushed to reports of a ‘violent disorder’ in Vines Court at around 2.45pm on Tuesday (7 March).

On arrival, a suspect involved was located in High Street, in the town centre, shortly after 3pm.

The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of numerous offences – criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon after a baseball bat was located in his possession, violence to secure entry, affray, possession of class B drugs and driving whilst disqualified.

He was taken into custody for questioning in relation to the suspected crimes.

Locals reported seeing three police cars and a police van outside the CM3 store in High Street. There was also some suggestion that a car was smashed up during the incident.
