Wiltshire Police say car ‘crashed into shop after failing to stop’ in Swindon

Wiltshire Police say that a car ‘crashed into a shop after failing to stop’ in Cricklade Road.

In the early hours of this morning (Saturday), officers attempted to stop a black Honda Civic – which was being driven slowly with no lights on.

The driver failed to stop and subsequently collided with the Michael’s Workwear shopfront. The impact sent the vehicle’s engine flying across the road.

Miraculously, the driver escaped significant injuries – but was taken to hospital for treatment.

In a full statement, the force said: “We responded to reports of a vehicle being driven very slowly without lights on Cricklade Road, Swindon in the early hours of this morning (04/03).

“After failing to stop for our officers the vehicle collided with a building causing a gas leak.

“Our colleagues from the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service have been working with gas engineers where both the building and gas pipe were made safe overnight.

“The driver was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries that are not life changing or life threatening.

“The road has been closed while the area has been made safe and to allow for the collision investigation.”
