A man has died in hospital after being hit by a lorry in Royal Wootton Bassett.

Great Western Air Ambulance landed near the scene as its critical care team treated the casualty alongside local ambulance crews. A team from Wiltshire Air Ambulance also attended the scene in a car.

Despite medics’ best efforts at the roadside and in hospital, the man died of his injuries this morning (Thursday). His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Following the crash, the High Street was closed in both directions for more than four hours. Roads policing officers and serious collision investigators were present at the incident.

Officials seized digital evidence from the lorry involved, though no blame should be attributed to the driver at this early stage – as an investigation into what happened is ongoing.
