‘Suicidal’ person rammed off the road to ‘save other motorists’ in Devizes

A ‘suicidal’ person was rammed off the road in Wiltshire to ‘save other drivers’, it’s said.

Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officers, assisted by armed police, were searching for a high-risk missing person in the Devizes area earlier today (Sunday).

Their vehicle, a silver Peugeot, was located and an officer – driving a marked BMW – made tactical contact to prevent the driver from smashing head-on into other motorists.

“Due to the driver’s intentions the quick thinking RPU driver made deliberate contact to prevent it going head on with other drivers”, a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said.

They added: “Superb work!”

It’s not clear what followed the stop. It’s highly likely the driver was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment or even detained under the Mental Health Act.
