Swindon men arrested after drugs and phones thrown into Erlestoke Prison

Two men were arrested in Swindon after drugs and phones were thrown into a local prison.

Numerous police units were involved in stopping a grey Seat Leon on Victoria Road, Old Town, at around 3pm on Saturday afternoon (18 February).

Wiltshire Police said that the vehicle was spotted near Erlestoke Prison, near Devizes, after items were thrown over the prison fence and into the secure yard.

A man, aged in his 20s from Swindon, was arrested on suspicion of conveying a prohibited article into prison.

The driver of the vehicle, a man aged in his 30s from Swindon, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

Both suspects remain in custody at Gablecross for further questioning this morning (Sunday).

Police stopped the vehicle in the Victoria Road area

Wiltshire Police confirmed that the packages, which contained mobile phones and drugs, were located and seized by the prison as part of the police investigation.

At least six police vehicles were in attendance, including roads policing units, local response units from the Swindon area, a dog unit and an armed response unit.
