Wiltshire Air Ambulance lands on M4 after man seriously injured in crash

The M4 is closed westbound following a ‘serious’ road traffic collision this afternoon (Sunday).

Emergency services were called to the crash – which involved a car and a lorry – at around 3pm.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed on the motorway, with the charity’s critical care medics providing urgent care to the driver of the car, a man who sustained serious injuries.

Three fire engines, two ambulances and numerous other emergency vehicles were also in attendance.

The road is expected to remain closed between junctions 16 (Swindon) and 17 (Chippenham) until around 6pm.

“The driver of the car has been taken to hospital with injuries which are serious but not thought to be life-changing”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police confirmed.

Adding that the carriageway has been “temporarily closed” for recovery work.
