Three people die after jumping from Swindon town centre car parks

Three people have taken their own lives by jumping from Swindon town centre car parks since the start of December, according to a source.

A confidential source told Wiltshire 999s that at least three people have committed suicide by jumping from car parks since the beginning of December – just over two weeks ago.

On 1 December, a woman was found dead on Gordon Gardens at 6.30am, after falling from above.

This news comes three months after figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that the suicide rate in Great Britain has fallen by 4.7 per cent in the last year.

There has been a drop of 9.4 per cent in the rate of women taking their own lives in 2016. In 2016 1,381 suicides by women were registered, compared with 1,493 in 2015.

The number of men dying by suicide in Great Britain in 2016 was 4,287; a rate of 15.7 per 100,000, down by three per cent on 2015. Men are more than three times more likely to take their own lives than women.
