Swindon man assaulted ex-partner during argument before driving off in her car

A man assaulted his ex-partner during an argument before driving off in her car without permission.

Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard that 33-year-old Dwayne Pile pulled the woman’s hair and smashed her phone during the incident on 23 August this year.

The defendant, of Pinehurst Road, went on to take her car keys and drove off in her Vauxhall Vetra – despite not having a driving license or insurance.

The prosecutor said the argument was about Pile’s contact with his children. Angry, he lashed out.

He pleaded guilty to assault by beating, criminal damage, taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and driving without a licence or insurance.

The victim did not support the prosecution and claims she only contacted the police due to concerns for Pile’s welfare.

Defending, Stephen Collins said that the defendant has replaced the broken mobile phone and started counselling for his mental health issues.

He’s due to start a new job in early 2023, but currently claims benefits and lives with his mother.

Magistrates took into account a letter written to the court about Pile, his previous good character and that he has shown remorse.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge for the assault and criminal damage and fined £200 for the motoring offences. His non-existent licence was also endorsed with six points.
