Two air ambulances have been tasked to a crash involving an overturned coach near Frome.
Emergency services rushed to reports the vehicle – which was transporting schoolchildren – had left the road on Oldford Hill at 3.35pm today (Monday).
Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance were deployed, landing near the scene to provide emergency care.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident to stablise the coach and ensure the scene was safe for medics to work.
Numerous Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) units were sent to the incident alongside a significant number of other ambulance resources.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that passengers, including children believed to be from Frome College, avoided life-threatening or life-changing injuries in the dramatic smash.
However, a number of patients have been taken to hospital for further assessment.
A spokesperson for the force said: “A number of passengers, including schoolchildren, received minor injuries and were checked over by paramedics at the scene.
“A small number are being taken to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment or assessment. Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening or life-changing.
“Officers are liaising with the school, as well as the parents of children involved in this incident.
“Enquiries will continue at the scene to establish the cause of the collision.
“The road is likely to remain closed for some time, so we’d ask motorists to avoid the area if possible.”
