Man got ‘lost in anger’ after girlfriend locked him on balcony for two hours

A man was ‘lost in anger’ after his girlfriend locked him outside on a balcony for two hours.

27-year-old Jamie Stock pleaded guilty to a charge of common assault when he appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (10 November).

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said police officers were sent to an address in Torrington Court, a high-rise flat block in Park North, on 4 February this year.

They were called to the scene by a neighbour who overhead concerning noises coming from the property – followed by a 999 call from his girlfriend.

She told officers on arrival that Stock had become threatening towards her during arguments, and that she had locked him outside on the flat’s balcony for about two hours.

When he was eventually allowed back into the property, he punched the TV and smashed a mirror. In custody, he told officers he ‘got lost in his anger’.

The couple’s eight-week-old baby was present during the incident. The court heard that Stock continues to reside at the address and the victim does not support the prosecution.

Mr Ballinger said that Stock has numerous previous convictions for offences against the person in a domestic context; his last appearance in court was in 2018.

When legal advisor Wanda Seath asked the defendant, who represented himself, if he wished to add anything, he replied: “nope, pretty much what he said happened”.

After confirming he is unemployed, magistrate Anna Hollingworth asked if he was hoping to get work. Stock replied: “I’m looking but I haven’t had no luck yet”.

He was fined £120. A nominal surcharge was also imposed.
