Driver ‘reported for careless driving’ after lorry strikes railway bridge on A36

A driver has been ‘reported to court’ after a lorry struck a railway bridge in Wiltshire.

The incident happened on the A36 Warminster Road this morning (Friday, 28 October).

Despite the bridge height being clearly marked, a lorry managed to become stuck under it – blocking the road in both directions between Wilton and Deptford.

Wiltshire Police says the driver has been “dealt with for careless driving”, which is understood to mean that they have been reported to court.

No one’s believed to have been injured in the incident.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: ” An HGV is currently stuck under a bridge on the A36 Warminster Road in Salisbury, next to the junction with Kingsway.

“The road will be closed for at least another 30 minutes. Please avoid the area.”
