A woman has sustained life-changing injuries following an alleged assault in Trowbridge.
Police officers responded to numerous 999 calls reporting a suspected disorder within a property in Woolpack Meadows on Monday evening (3 October).
They found a female casualty with serious injuries and paramedics rushed her to the Regional Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
She has since undergone life-saving surgery – which involved removing part of her skull to relieve a bleed on the brain – and was placed on a ventilator.
At the scene, officers arrested Jonathan James Grimes, 47, on suspicion of assault and he was taken to hospital with injuries to his hand, later confirmed to be a broken bone.
Appearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (5 October), the defendant, of Studley Rise, Trowbridge, pleaded not guilty to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
The case was sent to Swindon Crown Court and Grimes was remanded in custody. He will next appear on 4 November for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
