Locals say they are ‘shocked’ by the news of an attempted murder in the village of Pewsey.

A man was stabbed to near-death at around 9.30pm last night (Monday, 3 October), sparking a huge emergency response – including Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The casualty was found critically injured in Olympian Road, where local residents claim they have never seen a police car or dramatic incident.

Today was no different. Just 12 hours after the incident, no police vehicles, officers or a crime scene could be located in the village – which is situated seven miles south of Marlborough.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was rushed to the nearest Major Trauma Centre – at Bristol’s Southmead Hospital – where he remains in a critical condition.

A suspect, a 31-year-old Pewsey man, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

One man, who wished to remain anonymous, told Wiltshire 999s that he has lived on the housing estate for more than ten years and has never seen any sort of emergency, let alone a stabbing.

He said: “I’m absolutely shocked. I didn’t even know it had happened until I looked on Facebook.

“It’s right outside [his home], but I didn’t hear anything. I saw the police tape hanging off the bush this morning but other than that you’d never know anything happened here.

“I’m surprised there is no massive crime scene like you see on the TV, it’s odd really. Someone is dying in hospital and might not make it but I’ve not seen any police and I’ve been out and about most of the morning.”

Wiltshire 999s visited the scene of the crime and spent at least an hour scouring the local area for signs of a major investigation – but no police could be located, not even by drone.

A Royal Mail postal worker, refuse collection workers and a DPD delivery driver all said they had not seen a single police vehicle or officer during the course of their rounds.

This comes after Wiltshire Police claimed residents would see a “heightened police presence”.
