Community intel helps to stop £32k worth of cannabis hitting Wiltshire

Four people have been arrested in Salisbury yesterday after police officers uncovered two separate cannabis factories in the city.

Approximately 35 mature plants with an estimated street value of £17,000 were discovered at an address in Penruddock Close, after a warrant was carried out following intelligence received from the local community.

Three people – a 43-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man and a 34-year-old man were all arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis.

The 34-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug. All three have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Officers then uncovered a second cannabis factory yesterday evening, after attending an address in Bowes Lyon Court to carry out a welfare check on the occupants.

On arrival, shortly after 7.30pm, officers discovered a cannabis factory in the bedroom, with 30 mature cannabis plants and an estimated street value of £15,000. The cables at the property had been tampered with in order to bypass the key meter so electricity could be provided without payment.

The plants were all seized and a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and abstraction of electricity – he has since been released on bail.

Inspector Pete Sparrow said: “Through community intelligence and the officers following their noses and being proactive, we have been able to arrest four people, and seize a total of approximately £32,000 worth of cannabis, stopping it from reaching the streets of our community and into the hands of vulnerable people.

“Abstracting electricity is highly dangerous and it not only creates a threat to life to those living in the immediate area, but also poses a hazard to officers.

“We would continue to urge the public to report any suspected drug activity in their areas – we will always act on information we receive.”

Anyone wishing to report drug activity should call Wiltshire Police on 101.
