Police pursuit with suspected drink driver through Swindon ends in disaster

A month-old Mercedes has been destroyed in a collision in Swindon.

On Whitworth Road, the vehicle came to a stop on its roof during a police pursuit, after the suspected drink driver failed to stop for officers in the early hours of this morning.

It is understood that at least one occupant of the vehicle continued to make off from police on foot – headed into Pinehurst residents’ the gardens to avoid officers.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance medics attended the scene after landing on The Circle.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “On arrival, crews found one casualty out of the vehicle and one still inside. They removed the casualty from the vehicle using Holmatro cutting equipment and handed them over to ambulance crews.”

The serious collision closed Whitworth Road for around three hours.

No one is thought to have been seriously injured.
