Man arrested at gunpoint by armed officers after ‘making threats to kill somebody’

A man has been arrested by armed police following an incident in central Swindon.

Police were called to Shelley Street, off Cambria Bridge Road, after concerns were raised for the welfare of a resident this morning (Wednesday 7 September).

The road was cordoned off by officers whilst they attended the scene – though specific details about what exactly went on are currently unknown.

At around 12.15pm, a number of firearms officers – in at least two armed response vehicles – descended on an address on Linden Avenue, off Beech Avenue in Pinehurst.

The road was closed by local police and residents were advised to stay indoors whilst armed officers arrested a man at gunpoint.

A dog unit and roads policing unit were also in attendance.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that the suspect, a man in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill. He is currently held at Gabelcross custody.
