Firefighters responding to the smell of gas late last night discovered six casualties at the scene of a road traffic collision in Swindon town centre.
Following a 999 call reporting the pungent smell, fire crews attended Broad Street and stumbled upon a two-car crash on nearby Rosebury Street – one vehicle had hit a gas main.
A white Vauxhall Zafira Tourer and a red Peugeot 206 were involved in the 11.15pm incident.
South Western Ambulance Service were tasked to treat six walking wounded.
The gas supply was isolated by firefighters, and the incident was handed over to Transco.
