Travellers take over hotel grounds and ‘secure’ warehouse site in Wiltshire

Travellers have taken over a hotel’s grounds and a warehouse site in Wiltshire this evening (Monday, 8 August).

Police were called to two separate incursions about 15 miles apart in both Trowbridge and Colerne.

One group managed to infiltrate a warehouse site on Canal Road Industrial Estate. Tonight they could be seen guarding the gates. May least ten caravans and associated vehicles could be spotted.

At Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa, travellers have taken over part of the site — making themselves at home.

Tonight a security guard was manning the gate, but appeared to allow a traveller turning up in a vehicle access to the park — before he was warned not to make threats.

Police were also on site, but engaging with the travellers further into the park.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Please be assured that we are aware of a large amount of vehicles and caravans arriving at Lucknam Park Colerne and Kennet Way Canal Road Industrial Estate Trowbridge.

”Police are monitoring and dealing with these incidents and are doing everything possible to resolve the situation.”
