At least 60 firefighters battle huge field fire — just two miles from Avebury

Dozens of firefighters are currently battling a huge field fire about two miles from Avebury.

Approximately 15 fire engines are attending the serious incident close to the village of West Overton, having been called at around 6.30pm this evening (Monday, 8 August).

Motorists are told to avoid the A4 due to a smoke plume causing poor visibility past the scene.

Locals are also being advised to close their windows and doors.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Please be advised that the fire service have multiple appliances who are currently dealing with a field fire at West Overton Marlborough.

”The smoke is causing poor visibility on the A4 and members of the public are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.”
