Calne residents call 999 on suspected drink driver – who’s swiftly arrested by police

Calne residents called 999 to report a suspected drink driver last night (Saturday, 7 August).

Concerned locals noticed a black BMW turn into Campion Close at around 9pm – and reportedly drove recklessly whilst pedestrians were in the quiet cul-de-sac.

The vehicle is then said to have crashed up a kerb near Primrose Close and exited the area onto Duncan Street.

Police rushed to the location in a bid to catch the suspected drink driver, and soon after located the car involved at the shopping parade in William Street.

The suspect had reportedly purchased fish and chips from Ed’s Fish Bar before officers arrived. But he was swiftly detained by a dog handler.

On failing to provide a specimen of breath at the roadside, the 19-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody. He remains in the cells for questioning.
