“Terry Burgess, 82, was married to his beloved wife, Bridget for 52 years.

“Born in Oxford, Terry then moved to the Devizes area where he met Bridget at the local Young Farmers club.

“For the last four decades, Terry ran his own hand-crafted sign business and was an accomplished designer and creator. He was well known throughout the local area for his hundreds of designs which included houses, schools, golf clubs and pub signs.

“Previous to that Terry was a milk marketing board artificial inseminator working across farms in Wiltshire.

“He was trained at Lackham College and had a keen understanding for all aspects of farming. He often helped his brother-in-law, Brian Plank, on his farm and in his later life loved to discuss aspects of the farming calendar.

“Terry was a keen fitness enthusiast. In his younger years he played tennis and squash and was an integral member of the Outlaws Skittle Team in the local farmer’s league; and more recently could be seen cycling up Redhorn Hill and walking the local fields.  Later in life he shared Bridget’s passion of horse-racing, regularly visiting Newbury and Wincanton racecourses.

“Cars were Terry’s greatest passion which he would devote hours to, and he was always keen to keep up with the latest technology.

“He also loved to sit and enjoy the magnificent cottage garden that Bridget cultivated, with her stunning array of flowers.

“He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

“He has a surviving brother Raymond in New Zealand and sister, Hilary in South Africa. He was a dear and much loved brother-in-law to Gillian, Brian, Diz and doting Uncle to Louise and Nicholas.”
