Man arrested after armed police swarm Chippenham street and raid flat

Armed police have swooped on a flat in Chippenham this evening (Sunday, 17 July).

It came moments after local police officers were called an incident in Stockwood Road, on Southmead house estate, at around 7.45pm.

Specialist firearms officers were tasked with raiding the suspect’s address and apprehending him safely. A dog unit was also in attendance.

Stockwood Road, Chelwood Close and Southmead were closed while officers deal with the incident.

By approximately 8.30pm, the situation was under control – with one male in custody. The alleged offences committed are not yet known.

Police were also spotted putting long weapon, possibly a sword, into the back of a police car – believed to be a weapon they seized from inside the flat.

The road has reopened and the police have left the area.

Wiltshire Police has been approached for a statement. An update follows.
