A419 remains closed for crash investigation as police confirm local motorcyclist’s death

A motorcyclist has died following a road traffic collision on the A419 near Swindon.

Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway in Blunsdon shortly after 8pm last night (6 July) after a motorcyclist came off his bike – sustained significant injuries.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended the scene alongside approximately a dozen police officers and local ambulance crews. The helicopter touched down on the carraigway.

The motorcyclist, a local man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and they will be supported by a specialist police officer.

The A419 remains closed southbound for collision investigation work, but is expected to reopen within the next couple of hours.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We’d like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or may have seen the motorcyclist prior to the collision, to get in touch if they have not already spoken to police.

“We would ask any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam which could assist our enquiries to contact Wiltshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 322 of 06/07.
