Van driver arrested after man killed in crash on A419 near Swindon, police confirm

A van driver has been arrested after a man was killed on the A419 near Swindon.

Emergency services, including Great Western Air Ambulance, were called to the scene in Blunsdon at around 7.30am this morning (Sunday, 12 June).

A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of first responders. His family have been informed.

The driver of a van, involved in the incident, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and suspicion of drug driving.

Wiltshire Police say the fatally injured man was travelling by car, but the “exact circumstances of how he was struck are being investigated”.

The southbound carriageway of the A419 currently remains closed between Cricklade and the Blunsdon junction to allow collision investigators to examine the scene,
