Swindon road closed as police investigate hit-and-run that left cyclist seriously hurt

A road in Swindon is closed as police investigate a serious injury road traffic collision.

Emergency services responded to reports of a cyclist being struck by a vehicle near the BMW plant in Gipsy Lane at around 10.20pm yesterday (Friday, 10 June).

The driver of the vehicle – described as a small red van – fled the scene following the impact.

Wiltshire 999s understands that the cyclist was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford by Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

Shortly before 11pm, Wiltshire Police issued an appeal requesting anyone who spots the van being driven in the area to call them on 999.

An hour later, the force provided an update – confirming that the vehicle was located and a driver was arrested in connection with the serious incident.

The road remains closed for forensic collision investigation work, but is expected to open later this morning (Saturday, 11 June).

Anyone who witnesses the collision, or has dashcam footage, is asked to call 101 quoting log 409 of 10 June.
