Man to appear in court charged with attempting to kill police officer in A419 incident

A man is to appear in court charged with attempting to murder a police officer.

Marlon Kambulu Joao, 39, is to appear before Swindon Magistrates’ Court accused of trying to kill a female officer on the A419 yesterday morning (26 April).

The defendant, from Merton Court Eynsham, Oxfordshire, is also charged with dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen of breath, no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence.

It comes after a vehicle was stopped driving the wrong way down the A419 in Swindon at 12.40am. Joao is said to have tried to drive away, seriously injurying the officer.

She was rushed to Great Western Hospital to be treated for her injuries. She has since been discharged.

The other officer was also taken to hospital for assessment but was uninjured.
