Armed police surround youths in Swindon as pair arrested for firearms offence

Two youths have been arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence following an incident in Swindon.

Police were called to reports of anti-social behaviour in Shrewsbury Road, Walcot, at around 3.30pm today (13 April).

A short time later, armed police pounced on a group of youths in nearby Marlow Avenue, near the junction with Drakes Way, and detained two members of the group.

Officers arrested the pair on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm.

Following the incident, Wiltshire Police issued a Section 35 dispersal order covering Shrewsbury Road and Buckhurst Park.

The force says it’s in “response to ongoing anti-social behaviour” in the area.

A dispersal order gives the police powers to ask anyone within the zone to move on to prevent members of the public in the locality being harassed, alarmed or distressed or the occurrence in the locality of crime or disorder.

Failing to comply with the order can result in arrest.
