Armed police smash through bungalow window and arrest ‘gunman’ in Wiltshire village

Armed police smashed through a bungalow window before making an arrest on Thursday night.

Specialist officers wearing helmets and carrying firearms surrounded the property in Wroughton, near Swindon, at around 11pm yesterday (31 March).

With at least six police vehicles swarming Weirside Avenue, they forced entry into the home through a front window and arrested a man inside.

The suspect, aged in his 50s, is in custody at Gablecross Police Station held on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

Witnesses to the dramatic incident claim the suspect’s car was seized by police shortly before midnight – with the car alarm waking local residents.

A police presence remained at the scene until around 1.30pm, with officers guarding the crime scene.

A police dog unit also attended the bungalow and carried out a search, possibly in a hunt for weapons.

Wiltshire Police say an investigation is ongoing.
