Trains through Chippenham and Bath diverted after ‘person falls from railway bridge’

Trains to Bristol have been diverted away from Chippenham and Bath Spa railway stations after a person reportedly fell from a bridge.

Main line trains between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads are affected by the incident, which was first called into Avon and Somerset Police at 5.45pm today (16 March).

Emergency services are attending the scene in Langton Court Road – where a casualty is understood to have fallen from the railway bridge and suffered significant injuries.

The tracks are blocked as police, the ambulance service and fire crews deal with the incident.

Trains are being diverted between Bristol and Swindon – meaning they will no longer call at Chippenham or Bath Spa. The disruption is expected to continue until 8pm.

In a statement on their website, a Great Western Railway spokesperson said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa all lines are blocked.

“Train services between Bristol Temple Meads and Swindon may be cancelled, delayed or diverted between Bristol Temple Meads and Swindon.”
