Man vomits in Swindon Magistrates’ Court dock moments before he’s jailed for three weeks

A prolific offender vomited moments before he was jailed for three weeks.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (7 March), Connor Kirkley, 27, admitted stealing two t-shirts.

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said that the defendant took the items from the Nike store at the Swindon Designer Outlet on Friday, 4 March.

Police officers arrested him the following day, on Saturday morning.

The court heard that the shoplifted has a long history of similar offending. In 2020, he pulled a drugs needle on a security guard who tried to stop him from stealing bottles of Jack Daniel’s whiskey. Kirkley was jailed for one year.

Probation officer Michelle James said that he will be returning to prison on recall – where he will serve 28 days in custody before being released on licence.

Gordon Hotson, defending, said his client was struggling with drug addiction following his release from prison.

While magistrates deliberated his sentence, he vomited in the dock.

Moments later, the justices imposed a three-week custodial sentence – which he will serve consecutively to his prison recall.

Kirkley must also pay £20 compensation to Nike.
