Police officers quickly cordoned off an area of pavement 200 metres from the shop, where blood was visible on the ground and railings around Marlborough Court care home.

A box covered what is believed to be a pool of blood on the ground near the Woodlands Road junction.

A police dog unit was tasked to the incident. A general purpose dog, and its handler, carried out a search of Marlborough Court’s grounds for any persons or weapons which may have been used.

Wiltshire Police confirmed a man suffered a “significant neck injury”, and detectives are probing how he came to be injured. His condition is currently unknown.

Officers at the scene say it is not yet clear what happened, or if anyone else was involved in causing the man’s injury.

The crime scene was lifted and police had left the area by 8.30pm, but an investigation is ongoing.

Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
