Fire engines rush to Swindon tip blaze – locals told to close windows and doors

A blaze has broken out at the Swindon tip, sparking fire engines to rush to the scene.

The Household Waste Recycling Centre, on Cheney Manor Industrial Estate, has been evacuated and at least three fire crews at in attendance this morning (4 February).

Local residents report significant smoke over Rodbourne as the fire takes hold.

A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said: “Firefighters from DWFireRescue are currently on site dealing with the fire, which started in the site’s waste processing plant at around 10.50am.

“Nine fire crews are currently at the scene. No one has been injured as a result of the incident.

“The HWRC is currently closed and residents who have booked appointments at the recycling centre have been advised not to attend today.

“Local businesses and residents are advised to keep their windows closed at this time and local residents are advised to avoid the local area if they can.”
