Alleged murder victim ‘struck from behind by car travelling in same direction’, inquest hears

An alleged murder victim was struck from behind by a car, an inquest has heard.

Ryan Brindley, 43, died after he was involved in a collision with a Volkswagen Touran near The Wyndham Pub in Dinton on Wednesday 22 December last year.

Wiltshire and Swindon Coroner’s Court yesterday (31 January) heard how he was hit by a car from behind on the B3089.

The vehicle was travelling in the same direction as Mr Brindley, who was riding a KTM motorcycle.

Following the impact, both the motorcycle and the Volkswagen collided with a wall. The victim suffered what is believed to have been a fatal neck injury.

South Western Ambulance Service was called to the scene and his death was confirmed at 7.23pm.

42-year-old Paul Barrett, of White Road, Mere, appeared at Winchester Crown Court via video link from HMP Bullingdon, where he is remanded in custody, shortly after 12pm on 29 December.

Her Honour Judge Angela Morris set a plea and preparation hearing for March 25, 2022, with a preliminary trial date set for June 7.
