Domestic Violence Protection Order for Devizes man after alleged assault on ex-boyfriend

A Devizes man has been slapped with a Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO).

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (22 January), Christopher Padget, 46, was banned from contacting his 73-year-old ex-boyfriend following an alleged assault.

DC Melanie Reeves, of Wiltshire Police, applied for the DVPO in an attempt to protect the pensioner from the risk of violence.

Padget, of Hillworth Road, Devizes, did not attend the court hearing, though he was served with a notice yesterday (21 January) – giving him the opportunity to contest it.

DC Reeves told the court that the alleged victim is struggling to cope with Padget’s behaviour – which is exacerbated by mental health issues and alcohol use.

His alleged victim recently fled his home and drove to Devizes Police Station shoe-less and wearing just a dressing gown to report a domestic assault.

Magistrates granted a 28-day DVPO, which prohibits Padget from going within 100 metres of his Hillworth Road address and molesting his ex-partner.
