Retired greyhound dies after ingesting ‘poison’ during walk on Swindon estate

A retired racing greyhound has died after being walked on a housing estate in Swindon.

Seven-year-old bitch Lucy had to be put to sleep after her liver, kidneys and pancreas began shutting down following a walk on Sunday (16 January).

The pet was rushed to the vets but deteriorated over the days following the suspected poisoning.

Lucy’s owners believe she ingested something deadly whilst in the Downton Road area of Penhill, being walked on a small field near Seagry Court high-rise building.

“The area was full of litter, soiled nappies, and food just chucked around”, Lucy’s owner told Wiltshire 999s.

Adding: “She was a really healthy dog before all this she was a retired racing greyhound.

“It was unusual for her to pick things up on her walks, so something caught her attention and she ate it, and now it’s fatal.”
