Police secure closure order for Cricklade home over drug activity concerns

Wiltshire Police has successfully obtained a closure order on a property in Cricklade as part of ongoing work to tackle concerns from the local community.

Police have been aware of ongoing issues at an address in Lady Mead over the past six months and, following numerous calls to deal with anti-social behaviour and drugs-related activity at the house, they applied to the courts for a closure order.

This was granted by Swindon Magistrates Court today (09 December) and will be in place for three months.

This means that only the occupants of the address are allowed to enter the premises – anyone else other than the occupants, the council, or the emergency services who enters the address will be committing an offence and may be arrested.

PC Jo Phelps, from the Cricklade Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Since June of this year our officers have been called out on numerous occasions to this property and we are aware that the local community have been frustrated and upset by the ongoing issues associated there.

“Many of them have reported to us that they feel frightened and intimidated by the drugs activity, loud noise, anti-social behaviour and a constant stream of visitors at all times of day and night.

“While we will continue to investigate any criminal allegations, this closure order allows us to try to manage the situation at the property and gives us the additional police powers to arrest those who breach this order.

“We will continue to work closely with the local community and partner agencies, to take action and show that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
