One lane in Croft Road, Wroughton, has been cordoned off by police – also as a result of this morning’s incident.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: Please be aware that the M4 is closed in both directions this morning between Junction 15 and Junction 16 due to an ongoing incident.

“If you need to travel on that part of the M4 this morning please be aware and follow the diversions in place.

“We will provide an update when the road has reopened.”

National Highways advised motorists to plan ahead if they need to travel through the Swindon area on the motorway today.

A spokesperson said: “The road has been closed to allow Wiltshire Police to respond to an ongoing incident.

“The road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning.

”There are currently slight delays approaching the closure in either direction.

”If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
