‘Ten police vehicles’ were seen racing through Malmesbury as they responded to a driver in cardiac arrest.

Locals reported seeing the extreme police convoy passing through the town using blue lights and sirens shortly before 11pm last night (23 October), sparking concerns a major incident was ongoing.

But officers were rushing to a single-vehicle road traffic collision between Malmesbury and Shipton Moyne.

Wiltshire 999s understands the driver suffered a cardiac arrest at the wheel, before leaving the road and crashing.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance attended the scene — landing in a field off the B4040 — alongside local ambulances crews.

The patient, a man in his 70s, was taken to Bristol’s major trauma centre at Southmead Hospital.

Whilst the air ambulance flew to the site’s landing pad, it’s not clear whether the patient was flown to hospital or taken by land ambulance.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “At around 10.45pm last night we were called to a single-vehicle road traffic collision in Shipton Moyne.

“The driver, a man in his 70s, is believed to have suffered a medical episode and was taken to hospital.”
