Firefighters and ambulance service called to vehicle blaze in Swindon road

Firefighters have extinguished a vehicle fire in Swindon tonight.

At around 8.50pm this evening, Sunday 3 September, all three of the emergency services were called to a van well alight on Penhill Drive.

The driver – a tradesman – told our reporter at the scene that he’d just arrived back in Swindon following a trip to France, when he notice smoke coming from the engine.

The engine then caught light, destroying the front of the van.

Breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet were used to extinguish the fire, according to a spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

South Western Ambulance Service attended the scene and treated a person at the scene, but it’s not thought anyone suffered any serious injuries in the incident.

Officers from Tri-force Roads Police Unit and Tri-force Firearms Unit – who had just finished responding to an incident nearby – closed the road until 10pm.
