Armed police deployed after ‘knife attack’ near Swindon college

A man has reportedly been slashed with a machete during a serious assault in Swindon.

Armed police were deployed to the serious incident on Buckhurst Field, near New College, at around 11.15am today (16 September).

A local resident, who didn’t wish to be named, told Wiltshire 999s that the victim’s hand was “hanging off” with “blood pouring everywhere” following the knife attack.

Another said: “My daughter saw it all happen. There was a fight and one of them pulled a massive knife on the other one and used it. He was bleeding from his hand and his leg was covered in blood.”

There is a large police presence in the area and officers are expected to remain at the scene for the rest of today.

Wiltshire Police released the following statement on the incident:

“Officers are currently dealing with an incident in the Walcot area of Swindon.

“We were called at around 11.15am today (16/09) following reports of a disorder.

“At this stage we are aware of one man who has suffered a hand injury and paramedics are currently at the scene.

“A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with this incident and has been detained by police.

“Our investigation is at a very early stage, and people living locally are likely to see an increased police presence while we continue our enquiries.

“If you witnessed anything and can assist, please call 101 quoting log 104 of today (16/09).”
