Man in court accused of causing head-on crash which saw biker’s leg amputated

A man has appeared in court charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

As first reported by Wiltshire 999s, emergency services were called to the head-on collision on the A3102 Beaverbrook Road in Calne at around 2.45pm on 31 March last year.

Dominic Pratt, 25, stood before district judge Joanna Dickens at Swindon Magistrates Court this morning (15 September) accused of causing the devastating crash.

It’s alleged the defendant, of Tugela Road, Chippenham, overtook a lorry (HGV) in his blue Ford Fiesta and collided with a Triumph motorcycle.

Biker Philip Westwood suffered significant, life-changing injuries which resulted in the amputation of one of his legs above the knee.

Pratt offered no indication of plea and the case was sent up to Swindon Crown Court. He will next appear in October.
