Calne man denies crashing into cyclist leaving A3102 roundabout

A man has denied crashing into a cyclist on a roundabout in Calne.

Jon Brewster, 32, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court yesterday (4 September) where he entered a not guilty plea to a charge of driving without due care and attention.

Wiltshire Police prosecutor Mike Smith accused the defendant, of Dixon Way, Calne, of hitting the read end of a cyclist whilst leaving a roundabout that connects the A3102 with Chilvester Hill on 1 August 2020.

As a result of the afternoon crash, it’s claimed the male cyclist fell to the floor and suffered minor injuries. It’s said his bicycle was damaged in the shunt.

Mr Brewster disputed that he caused the collision – stating the cyclist hit the front of his vehicle.

The case was adjourned until 19 October for a trial preparation hearing.

[Editor’s footnote: In paragraph two of this story, we wrote that Mr Brewster pleaded guilty to the offence. This was wrong and we apologise for the error, he pleaded not guilty — it was amended within minutes of the story being published.]
