Is Westbury getting a sex club? Locals concerned over ‘sex establishment’ plans

No is the short answer.

Some local residents have been left concerned over an advertisement in the White Horse News suggesting there could be a sex club opened in Westbury.

An application was made to Wiltshire Council by Comus Leisure Limited, which owns and runs Venom Nightclub, to register as a sex establishment on 23 August.

Wiltshire 999s probed the application and spoke with Barrie White, the company director, about his plans for the West Wilts Industrial Estate venue.

He confirmed the application is so the business can host so-called gentleman’s evenings, including Magic Mike-style events and pole dancing.

But Barrie says he has no plans to hold a significant number of events of this nature. However, to do more than 12 he must apply to the local authority for permission.

“To do more than 12 we need a license, the club will be the same as always, that’s just the license it comes under”, he said.

Adding: “We don’t have any plans for our next [gentleman’s evening], we just needed the licence in case we do more than 12.”
