One killed in head-on collision on M4 motorway near Swindon overnight

A person has been killed in a serious crash on the M4 late last night.

At around 10.40pm on Sunday, an Audi A3 drove the wrong way down the motorway towards oncoming traffic – causing a head-on collision with an Audi A4.

The driver of the Audi A3 was pronounced dead at the scene.

It happened between junctions 17 (Chippenham) and 16 (Swindon) eastbound.

The driver of the Audi A4 has been taken to Southmead Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The M4 was closed for around seven hours overnight, while specialist police officers carried our a collision investigation. It reopened at around 7am.
