‘Hard-working’ Chippenham councillor dies two weeks after being re-elected

A councillor re-elected to represent Chippenham just two weeks ago has died.

Conservative councillor Richard Bambury passed away at the Royal United Hospital in Bath on Saturday evening.

In a statement, Chippenham Town Council wrote: “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.

“Richard was elected as Town Councillor in 2017 to represent Pewsham Ward and was recently re-elected to continue representing Pewsham residents in May 2021.”

The councillor chaired the Planning, Environment and Transport Committee, and the Community Donations Sub Committee where he delighted in supporting local organisations and community groups.

“He worked hard to support his ward residents wherever he could”, the statement added.

“We will be flying the Town Hall flag at half-mast today as a sign of our respect to Richard and it will be lowered on the day of the funeral.”
