Police have cordoned off part of a main road following a serious assault in Swindon.
Officers, alongside the ambulance service, were called to the incident in Thames Avenue at approximately 9.15am this morning.
A man was found near the Shield and Dagger public house with serious injuries to his head and hand, with one witness reporting that the victim was “bleeding heavily”.
The casualty was rushed to Great Western Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Our investigation is at a very early stage but there is not believed to be any wider threat to the public.
“A cordon was set up on Thames Avenue while our enquiries were carried out.”
The force has confirmed to Wiltshire 999s that a knife was located at the scene, but no arrests have been made at this stage.
Apologising for any inconvenience on Twitter, the Swindon’s Bus Company said it is diverting services 11 and 12 following the road closure. The buses are being diverted via Whitworth Road, The Street, Haydonleigh Drive and Westfield Way to the Asda Walmart.
UPDATE 11.45PM: Thames Avenue has reopened in both directions, however, a crime scene remains in place – guarded by police officers ahead of forensic investigation.
